Guinness Brewery launches ‘Over The Moon Milk Stout’

I’m not really a big beer drinker but when I am in the mood for a beer, I always choose a stout.  I love stouts because of their rich bold flavor notes of coffee and chocolate.  The only Guinness brewery in the United States happens to be just outside of Baltimore and it’s been open for about a year now.  As much as I love stouts, I only recently visited the new Guinness Open Gate Brewery in  Halethrope, MD to try their new beer launch  ‘Over The Moon Milk Stout’.

The big beer can is a cake

The stout has a 5.30% ABV with flavor notes of cocoa, coffee and chocolate.  It has the big, bold flavors that I love in stouts and I was honestly happy to sip a stout during the summer because most bars don’t serve them during the warm months.  Guinness invited one of their top beer ambassadors from New York to come down to Baltimore and educate our group on a little history of the brewery and give us a detailed profile of the new stout.

The brewery’s on-site restaurant prepared a delicious 24-hour Smoked Short Rib Pasta to accompany the stout tasting.  They also prepared desserts such as their Flourless Chocolate Cake, Cupcakes, Chocolate Cheesecake Mousse and Macaroons.

We also tried the Imperial Golden Pineapple beer which is made with Pineapple Puree and I really liked it.  It was a bit sweet but not too sweet and still had the taste of beer.

After we were done with the beer tasting, we went out onto the brewery lawn to have a Paint and Sip session with Pinot’s Palette. This was my third sip and paint event and I happen to think I’m good at it (toots horn).  Check out the results below…

Topside Baltimore is now open for breakfast and lunch

Topside Baltimore, a popular nightlife location in the Mount Vernon, Baltimore district, is now open for breakfast and lunch.  Today, I had the opportunity to check out their new weekday breakfast menu. I’ve been to Topside for weekend brunch a few times, so I decided to order a few items that I haven’t had.  I decided on the Chorizo Breakfast Burrito, Grilled French Toast and the Stonefruit-Tomato Tartine. When the food came out to my table, I could see the food styling influence of the new Executive Chef Scott Hines.  I had brunch at B&O when he was there and the food was beautiful and delicious.  I especially liked the thick bread loaf french toast because I’ve never seen it served like this anywhere else in Baltimore. The tartine featured a perfect balance of salty ricotta cheese spread on multigrain bread topped with sweet ripe peaches, I may go back and order that with just a cup of coffee.

After breakfast, I took a peek at the lunch menu and if features a few items that caught my eye.  I can’t wait to go back for lunch.

Lunch at Soulvaki Greek Cuisine

I’m a little embarrassed to say that I discovered feta cheese late in life but once I got a taste of that, I definitely filed it in my top three cheese list.  I live by the saying “Feta makes everything betta,”  and I’m always down to visit a Greek restaurant to get a taste of the authentic crumble.  One of my favorite fast, casual lunch spots is Souvlaki Greek Cuisine in Hampden, Baltimore.  Located right on The Avenue, it’s a welcome addition to the other cuisines in the neighborhood.  It’s always clean and bright and fresh inside whenever I visit and the same cashier is always there with a smile and a suggestion on what I should order.  It’s a great spot for a lunch meeting or lunch with a friend, I’ve been there so many times so I’ve had my share of everything.  It’s also a popular Grubhub and Uber Eats location because there are always people coming in to pick up orders.  I just thought I’d list a few of my favorites for you in case you want to give them a visit.

Lamb Souvlaki Platter – Two Lamb Skewers with your choice of two sides, pita and sauce.  I ordered the Horiatiki Salad and Greek Fries. I couldn’t decide on the sauce so I order Tzatziki and Spicy Feta Cheese.

Horiatiki Salad with Grilled Chicken –  I had no idea this was the correct way to make/eat a greed salad – without lettuce.  This version of the salad is clean and fresh and icludes all the key ingrediets…who needs lettuce anyway?

Shrimp Souvlaki Wrap –  Any of the souvlaki skewers can be turned into a wrap that includes tomatoes, red onions and fries wrapped in a warm pita.

Yaourti –  One of three classic Greek desserts on the menu, the Strained Greek Yogurt is my favorite because it can be topped with honey or sour cherry syrup and as you can see, you know what my preferred topping is.

Whatever you order at Souvlaki Greek Cuisine, make sure you order the Greek Fries – you won’t regret it!

Summer Snacking with Shoprite

Summer’s not over yet, especially when I have more snacking to do.  My foodie lifestyle does not allow me to always eat healthy so when I’m home or at my 9-5, I’m always looking for healthy snacks to munch on.  Luckily, ShopRite send me their #WholesomePantry snack box with lots of goodies inside.

The box included Organic Raw Cashews, Granola Squares, Mango Slices, Fruit Bars and my favorite the Sweet Potato Tortilla Chips. At home, I’ve been making #guacamole to go with the chips and while at work I eat the chips without dip. I can’t live without them! It’s made my Summer Snacking pretty easy.  You can find these Wholesome Pantry snacks and more at your nearest Shoprite Supermarket.
