COCKTAILS

Sp[iced] Tea

Hello June!!  Not only does June bring longer days and warmer temperatures, but in the cocktail world June is also National Iced Tea Month. I love to use tea for mixing cocktails because tea can be served hot or iced.  I can create a comforting cup of toddy or an iced refreshing beverage.  I had lots of ideas about creating a drink for this post, but I couldn’t narrow down my choice of liquor.  Imagine my excitement when I received a bottle of Blue Chair Bay Coconut Spiced Rum to experiment with.

Blue Chair Bay Premium Rum is a brand created by singer-songwriter Kenny Chesney.  It’s sold in three flavors: White Rum, Coconut Rum, and Coconut Spiced Rum. Blue Chair Bay Bottle Image For this recipe I used the Coconut Spiced Rum because I knew the coconut flavor would add a hint of sweetness and the spice would give it an unexpected twist. Don’t let the “spiced” fool you…this rum  has subtle spice much like a Cider and not at all like a Bloody Mary. I decided to play up the spices in the rum because the coconut flavor naturally compliments and acts as a natural sweetener for the tea. BlueChairRecipe The Cinnamon Simple Syrup is easy to make: heat 1 cup of water, add 4 cinnamon sticks, 4 tablespoons of sugar, and boil for 10 minutes. SpicedTea This recipe serves one, but as always you can multiply the measurements and serve more. This is just one of two entries into the Blue Chair Bay Blogtender Nation.

Strawberry Spritzer

Spring is finally here and what better way to cool off and stay refreshed than with a spring spritzer cocktail.

A spritzer can be made with almost any liquor and a variety of ingredients. It’s always topped with an effervescent beverage such as, sparkling water, club soda, lemon lime soda, or seltzer water.  For this recipe I used strawberries because they’ve always reminded me of spring and I used the same red berry gin from this previous post.

SS

Ingredients:

2 oz  Seagram’s Red Berry Twisted Gin

7-10 Strawberries

1/2 oz Grenadine

2 oz lemon lime soda (sprite)

Instructions:

Muddle 5-6 strawberries in a cocktail shaker.

Add gin, grenadine, and shake well.

Pour mix over ice making sure to strain the mix and catch any loose strawberry pulp.

Add 2 oz soda,  cut additional strawberries in half and add for garnish

Sweet James Irish Cocktail

SJ

There’s no written rule that says all St. Patrick’s Day cocktails have to be green.  This year I decided to save the green drinks for the bar scene and mix something different at home. The end result is a cocktail that I like to call “Sweet James”  This cocktail is made with two Irish favorites – Jameson and Guinness with a bit of Pineapple Juice to give it a sweet flavor.

SJI

What you need:

2 oz Jameson Irish Whiskey (or any Irish Whiskey)

1/2 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice

1/2 oz simple syrup

2 oz pineapple juice

1 bottle or can of Guinness Stout

Instructions

Add whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup, and pineapple juice into a cocktail shaker with ice.

Shake well and serve over ice only filling only 1/2 the glass

Pour the Guinness slowly over the cocktail filling it to the top

* Serves 1

Citronge Margarita

Salted rim or Sugar ? Frozen or On the Rocks? Spicy or Sweet?  With so many ways to mix the perfect Margarita, everyone can get in on the action during National Margarita Day (February 22).

I was recently gifted a bottle of Patron Citronge Orange Liqueur  and I used it to make the perfect Citronge Margarita. Patron is the popular brand that makes one of the finest tequila, naturally it only makes sense for them to venture into liqueurs especially an orange flavored liqueur because Triple Sec is very popular and in many recipes.  The classic Margarita recipe includes, tequila, sour mix, and triple sec.  For those that don’t know, Triple Sec is an orange-flavored liqueur used to make a variety cocktails.  In the recipe below,  I’ve replaced the classic triple sec for a more natural and pure orange flavor found in Patron Citronge.

What you need:

Cmarg1

1 oz Gold Tequila

1 1/2 ounces of Patron Citronge

1 Lemon, 1 Lime, and 1/2 Orange

Instructions

Juice the lime, lemon, 1/2 orange and pour into a cocktail shaker (I sometimes like to make my own sweet/sour mix for margaritas, mainly because it gives the drink an authentic taste….More on my juicing method in an upcoming post)

Add Ice, Tequila Gold, and Patron Citronge

Shake Well and Serve with Orange slice

*Makes 1 serving

Swag Stag Toddy

What I love best about Winter is the warm and comforting cocktails.   One of my favorite and possibly the most common hot cocktail is the Hot Toddy.

The Hot Toddy is an easier drink to make because the main ingredients are Tea, Whiskey, and Lemon.  There are other variations of this drink that include cinnamon, honey, nutmeg and many other spices and fruit.   Some people also swap out the Whiskey and use Brandy instead.

StagSwagTea

For my recipe I used Red Stag Whiskey by Jim Beam. I picked this particular whisky because the flavor was “Honey Tea” – perfect combination for a Hot Toddy.

What you need:

1 1/2 oz Whiskey

3 oz Cup of hot Tea

1 tbs sugar

1 tsp honey

Lemon Wedge for Garnish

Add Teabag to glass

Top with boiling water and steep for 5 minutes

Add sugar and honey

Add a splash of lemon

Stir and ENJOY!

Keeping up with Keurig

I’ve been coveting a Keurig Coffee Maker for about a year now and luckily I received one as a Christmas gift.

KeurGift

The Keurig system comes with a 20 K-Cup variety pack of Coffee and Teas, and of course I’ve already drank them all  except the Hot Chocolate.  Winter is finally here and what better time to whip up a Hot Chocolate Cocktail.

HCKConFor this recipe I used:

1 oz. Pinnacle Marshmallow Vodka

Add it to the Hot Chocolate

Top with CREAM Vanilla (Alcohol Infused) Whipped Cream

HCK2

I was introduced to CREAM Alcohol Whipped Cream some time ago and I’ve loved it ever since.  It’s very hard to find because every liquor store doesn’t stock it.  They come in a variety of flavors such as, chocolate, caramel, raspberry, cherry, vanilla, and orange.  It’s also very versatile because I’ve used it in coffee, with Bailey’s Liqueur, and on cakes and pastries.

HCK3

My photo above is a lame display of the whipped cream because the can wasn’t at room temperature. The back of the can suggest “Serve at Room Temperature.  If Cream becomes runny due to hot or cold temperatures, let can return to room temperature.”  When I purchased the can it was on display at the front entrance of the liquor store and I assume the cold draft caused it to be a little runny, but let me tell you… it’s still delicious!!

What is your favorite Boozy Hot Chocolate Drink?
